Is Jesus God?
To be God is to have unique divine properties that no other created being possesses. God's Word defines various areas that belong to God alone and that man is forbidden to attribute to any created being.
Only God can create
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.Genesis 1:1Through Him all things were made, and without Him nothing was made that has been made.John 1:3He was in the world, and though the world was made through Him, the world did not recognize Him. He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. John 1:10-11The world arose through Jesus, was created by Him.
We are to worship only God
For you must not worship any other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.Exodus 34:14Furthermore, the Father judges no one, but has assigned all judgment to the Son, so that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.John 5:22-23We are to give honor and glory to Jesus, otherwise we are not honoring God.
Creation is to bow down just before God alone
And I am John, who heard and saw these things. And when I had heard and seen them, I fell down to bow down at the feet of the angel who had shown me these things. But he said to me, “Do not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers the prophets, and with those who keep the words of this book. Bow before God!”Revelation 22:8-9And again, when God brings His firstborn into the world, He says: “Let all God’s angels bow down before Him.”Hebrews 1:6God's creation is to worship Jesus.
Only God can rule over everything
The Most High rules over the kingdom of mankind and gives it to whom He wishes.Daniel 4:32Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.”Matthew 28:18God entrusted all the reign to Jesus.
Only God can forgive sins
Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves, Who can forgive sins but God alone?Mark 2:6-7Jesus said to the paralyzed man, Son, your sins are forgiven. But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins. So he said to the man, I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home. He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God, saying, We have never seen anything like this!Mark 2:5, 10-12*After the resurrection, the Lord Jesus gave this right to those who received the Holy Spirit, since the Spirit of Jesus can forgive sins. Only a person under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and obedience to Him knows, when to declare the forgiveness of sins to people and when to retain their sins.
After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. Again Jesus said, Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you. And with that he breathed on them and said, Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone's sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.John 20:20-23Jesus is not an angel
So He became as far superior to the angels as the name He has inherited is excellent beyond theirs. For to which of the angels did God ever say: “You are My Son; today I have become Your Father”? For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government will be upon His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.Isaiah 9:6The Word that became flesh is God
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.John 1:1Greek original refers to God with the word theón and theós: “Ἐν ἀρχῇ ἦν ὁ λόγος, καὶ ὁ λόγος ἦν πρὸς τὸν θεόν (theón), καὶ θεὸς (theós) ἦν ὁ λόγος.”
The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.John 1:14Jesus came into the world in the flesh, so He is that Word.
I AM is God
God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”Exodus 3:14I am telling you now before it happens, so that when it comes to pass, you will believe that I AM (He).John 13:19“Truly, truly, I tell you,” Jesus declared, “before Abraham was born, I AM!”John 8:58That is why I told you that you would die in your sins. Eight days later, His disciples were once again inside with the doors locked, and Thomas was with them. Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” Then Jesus said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and look at My hands. Reach out your hand and put it into My side. Stop doubting and believe.” Thomas replied, “My Lord and my God!” John 20:26-28Paul the apostle refers to Jesus as God
Theirs are the patriarchs, and from them proceeds the human descent of Christ, who is God over all, forever worthy of praise!Romans 9:5Likewise, the Greek original does not divide this sentence into two, but continues it with a comma before the word God (theós) without interruption: “ὧν οἱ πατέρες, καὶ ἐξ ὧν ὁ χριστὸς τὸ κατὰ σάρκα, ὁ ὢν ἐπὶ πάντων, θεὸς (theós) εὐλογητὸς εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας· ἀμήν.”
